The management of Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) has addressed allegations of negligence surrounding the death of a patient at the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Ward.
In a statement released on April 20, 2025, the hospital acknowledges the unfortunate incident and extends condolences to the bereaved family.
According to the hospital management, preliminary findings indicate that the patient, who was referred from another facility, required a specialized procedure that was not available at TTH.
“Preliminary findings indicate that the patient, who was referred from another facility, required a specialized procedure that, regrettably, is not yet available at TTH,” the statement read.
The hospital also revealed that all four of its Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds were occupied at the time of the patient’s arrival.
“Additionally, all four of our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds, which serve the entire Northern Ghana, were fully occupied at the time of the patient’s arrival,” the statement added.
While acknowledging the public’s concern, the hospital management urged stakeholders to remain calm and avoid drawing premature conclusions.
“We respectfully urge all stakeholders to remain calm and avoid drawing premature conclusions,” the statement said.
The hospital has constituted an internal investigative team to thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and has committed to full transparency, promising to communicate the outcomes of the investigation to the public once concluded.
