The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has met with the leadership of the teacher unions over concerns about the placement of teachers on their appropriate salary scales.
After the engagement, the unions agreed to call off their planned strike following assurances and concrete measures to resolve the issue.
Key among the resolutions is that teachers will no longer be required to travel to their District Education Offices to submit payslips for salary-scale placement.
It was also agreed that close to 80,000 teachers will be placed on their correct salary scales.
As part of the process, the Ghana Education Service (GES) is expected to submit the relevant data to the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department to facilitate the adjustments and payments.
The Ministry of Education commended the leadership of the teacher unions for their constructive engagement and commitment to resolving the matter in the interest of the education sector and the welfare of teachers.
It further reiterated its commitment to working with all stakeholders to ensure teachers receive their rightful entitlements promptly.
