Ghana’s badminton team is poised to kick off their campaign at the 2025 African Championship in Cameroon on Friday, February 14.
According to Michael Obeng, Metro TV journalist and Press Attaché for the tournament, the team will compete in five individual events, with the ranking points earned contributing to the Olympic qualifiers for the Youth Olympics 2026 and LA 2028.
Unfortunately, Ghana missed out on the mixed team event due to logistical constraints, including unforeseen border travel restrictions and a medical situation involving one of the women’s doubles players.
The team’s medical personnel have stabilized the player’s condition, and she is now recovering. However, due to the rules of the Sudirman Cup format, which restricts players to participating in no more than two events, Ghana conceded a walkover to their opponents.
Despite the setbacks, the team is excited to receive a visit from protocol officers and the Ghana-Cameroon Association President and members on Wednesday, who will offer their support and best wishes.
The Ghanaian community in Cameroon has also been rallying behind the team, providing unwavering support.
Team Ghana is grateful for the support of all Ghanaians and looks forward to making a strong impression at the championship.
