Teen Para-Athlete Gilbert Ampiah ready for global stage

Gilbert Ampiah, a 16-year-old para-athlete from St. Augustine’s College, has successfully undergone classification for the T44 sports class in high jump.

He is now set to represent Ghana at the 2025 Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan International Para Athletics Meeting in Marrakech, Morocco, scheduled from April 24 to 27, which will serve as a qualifier for the Commonwealth and Paralympic Games.

Some of Gilbert’s notable achievements include personal bests of 1.60m, cleared at Ekumfi Atwa in 2023 where he defeated able-bodied athletes; 1.82m, set at St. Augustine’s inter-house competition; and 1.86m, achieved at a recent competition, showcasing his rapid progress.

Gilbert underwent classification from April 21 to 23, a requirement for formal recognition within para athletics competition standards.

Despite being physically challenged from birth, Gilbert’s determination and talent have made him an inspiration to many Ghanaians, demonstrating his perseverance and courage.

With his successful classification, Gilbert Ampiah is poised to make a significant impact at the upcoming Para Athletics Meeting in Morocco.
