Traditional leaders in Tema and Ashaiman have refuted claims that they endorsed Kwesi Darko Asare as Managing Director of the Tema Development Corporation (TDC).
Reacting to recent publications, the chiefs clarified that they never urged President John Dramani Mahama to appoint Kwesi Darko to the position. They urged the public to disregard such reports, describing them as false and misleading.
The leaders also accused Kwesi Darko of spreading falsehoods against the Chief of Tema to push his personal agenda. They recalled his past dismissal from TDC due to alleged criminal tendencies, warning against entrusting him with leadership again. One asked, how can we ask the president to appoint someone who was involved in illegal sales of land and was dismissed from TDC Ghana Limited. Again, how can we ask the president to appoint someone who is in court with the same Company?
They also condemned the increasing politicization of development in the area, emphasizing the need for a competent leader to restore Tema’s urban planning vision.
The chiefs expressed concern over the city’s mismanagement, citing encroachment on greenbelt areas and the neglect of planning regulations.
They stressed that TDC should be led by someone with integrity and a deep understanding of Tema’s original master plan. And do not reduce the management of TDC to selling lands.
The traditional council urged all to allow the president the free hands to appoint someone that has development and the Tema city at heart.
In a related department the former mayor of Tema and council of state member, was shocked and surprised about the publication attributed to him .
