‘The constitutional review is not about any political party, it is about Ghana’ – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has emphasized that Ghana’s ongoing constitutional review exercise is not a partisan initiative but a national effort aimed at strengthening governance and democracy.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the eight-member Constitutional Review Committee at Jubilee House, he underscored the need for unity and broad national participation in shaping a revised constitution that reflects the aspirations of all Ghanaians.

“This exercise is not about any political party. It is about Ghana,” Mahama asserted.

“It is about ensuring that our Constitution reflects the values, hopes, and dreams of every Ghanaian, regardless of their background or affiliation.”

President Mahama’s remarks come amid concerns that constitutional amendments may be driven by political interests. However, Mahama assured the public that the committee members were carefully selected based on their integrity, expertise, and dedication to national progress—not political considerations.

He urged the committee to engage widely with citizens from diverse backgrounds, ensuring that the revised Constitution fosters inclusivity, national unity, and trust.

“This Constitution must belong to all of us. It must inspire trust, unite us, and provide a framework for a more just, inclusive, and prosperous Ghana,” he added.

As the committee embarks on its assignment, the president encouraged all Ghanaians to actively participate in the process, emphasizing that the Constitution is the foundation of the country’s democracy and must evolve in ways that benefit every citizen.
