‘They chose to run away during vetting’ – Ablakwa fires back at Minority caucus

Foreign Affairs Minister-designate, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has fired back at the Minority caucus in Parliament, accusing them of resorting to “desperate smear press conferences and infantile fabrications” after failing to find any wrongdoing against him.

“They had every opportunity when I appeared before them for vetting but they chose to run away,” Ablakwa said in a post on social media on Monday, February 3, 2025.

According to him, if he was engaged in any wrongdoing, “They [the NPP] had every opportunity when they were in power for 8 years to have me prosecuted but they failed because there was nothing they could find.”

Ablakwa, who was vetted by the Appointments Committee on January 31, 2025, alongside Health Minister-designate Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, was responding to allegations made by the Minority caucus, headed by Alexander Afenyo Markin.

The North Tongu MP, however, remains unfazed, saying he is ready for a second round of vetting if the Minority caucus so desires.

“If they want a second round of vetting, I am ready for them,” he dared.

“It is not a crime for a Member of Parliament to patriotically and diligently seek the protection of public resources and state assets pursuant to our constitutional mandate of oversight.”

Ablakwa further reaffirmed his commitment to President Mahama’s “exciting reset innovations” at the Foreign Ministry, saying “those on the side of truth and justice can never be intimidated.”
