Director of Legal Affairs for the NDC, Godwin Edudzi Tamekloe, has launched a scathing attack on Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame, calling him “dishonest” and “unfit” to hold office.
Godwin Edudzi Tamekloe’s comments come after the Court of Appeal’s decision to quash the trial of Minority Leader Cassiel Ato Forson and businessman Richard Jakpa, accused of causing a €2.37 million financial loss to the State.
“On April 9, when Godfred Dame called Jakpa, he knew he was engaging in misconduct,” Tamekloe said.
“He even suggested to Jakpa that he hoped no one was recording him. This is clear on the audio.”
Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana, Godwin Edudzi Tamekloe questioned the integrity of the Attorney General, suggesting Godfred Dame is unqualified to hold his position, an asserstion, many critics agree.
“In any serious country, with respect, under no circumstances should Godfred Dame continue as Attorney General. I’ve seen better – Obed Asamoah, Nana Addo, Papa Owusu Ankomah, Joe Ghartey, Marietta… never have I seen an Attorney General as low as Godfred Yeboah Dame.”
Attorney General Godfred Dame announced plans to appeal the Court of Appeal’s decision, calling it “perverse” and “against the weight of cogent evidence.”
“The decision clearly goes against the quest for public accountability and the rule of law,” Dame said in a statement.
The controversy surrounds the purchase of 200 ambulances between 2014 and 2016, with the Court of Appeal ruling that Ato Forson and Jakpa have no case to answer.
