A 26-year-old Liberian man, Austin Tengeeh, has died after he was allegedly beaten by residents at an apartment complex at Lashibi near Sakumono in Accra, prompting police to arrest three suspects and launch a full investigation.
The incident occurred on Friday, 27 February 2026, when Mr Tengeeh visited his brother at the apartment complex with his girlfriend.
According to preliminary police investigations, the situation escalated after the caretaker of the building reportedly raised an alarm, accusing him of being a thief.
Within minutes, some residents and members of the public allegedly descended on the young man and assaulted him.
A police patrol team responding to a distress call arrived at the scene and rescued Mr Tengeeh. He was rushed to the Sakumono Community Hospital for emergency treatment, but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
His body has since been deposited at the Lashibi Funeral Home for preservation and autopsy, as investigators work to determine the exact cause of death.
The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects, Vincent Adzikah, 38, Francis Amuzu, 44, and William Addison, 34.
They are currently in police custody assisting with investigations and are expected to be put before court today, Monday, 2 March 2026.
A fourth suspect, Enoch Mensah, remains at large, and police say efforts are underway to apprehend him.
In a statement, the Command cautioned the public against taking the law into their own hands, stressing that mob action and unlawful assault are criminal offences that undermine due process.
Police urged residents to report suspected criminal activity through lawful channels and allow investigations to take their course.
