Three Missions Unite to Fight Visa Fraud in Ghana

The High Commissions of Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom in Ghana have teamed up to launch a one-week public awareness campaign to address the rising threat of visa fraud.

Visa fraud continues to harm many Ghanaians through fake agents, misinformation, financial loss, emotional stress, and long-term travel bans.

The joint initiative forms part of a global effort led by UK Visas & Immigration, supported by Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. It coincides with International Fraud Awareness Week (16–22 November 2025) and aims to educate the public on the dangers of visa scams, promote safe application practices, and encourage reliance on official government channels.

H.E. Berenice Owen-Jones, Australian High Commissioner to Ghana, stressed the importance of using trusted sources:

“The Fighting Visa Fraud campaign sends a clear message — if you are applying for a visa, always use official sources and beware of shortcuts or guaranteed results.”

British High Commissioner Dr Christian Rogg highlighted the scale of the problem:

“In 2024, 1,632 Ghanaian applicants used fraudulent means when applying for UK visit visas… far too many people misled by agents into actions that resulted in a 10-year ban.”

Canadian High Commissioner Myriam Montrat emphasized collaboration and protection for applicants:

“Canada is firmly committed to stopping fraudulent practices and ensuring people have access to accurate and trustworthy information.”

The three missions reaffirmed their commitment to protecting genuine applicants and maintaining transparent and secure visa processes.

Throughout the week, the High Commissions will share educational content across their digital platforms. The public is encouraged to follow updates using #AUSCANUKGH.
