The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, December 21, 2025, following intelligence received by the Ashaiman Divisional Police Intelligence Team.

According to a police press release dated December 22, the team received information “regarding an ongoing robbery at a private residence at Community 24” at about 1:30 am.

Acting swiftly, officers were dispatched to the location to intervene.

Upon arrival, police said they encountered six suspects, “all wearing face masks and hoodies, and armed with machetes, guns, and other offensive weapons.”

The suspects reportedly opened fire on the officers, prompting the police to return fire.

“During the exchange of gunfire, three of the suspects were fatally wounded and later succumbed to their injuries,” the statement said.

The remaining three suspects, believed to have sustained gunshot wounds, managed to escape from the scene.

Police said exhibits retrieved from the scene included “three face masks, three machetes and one unregistered Royal 125 motorbike.”

The bodies of the deceased suspects have since been conveyed to the Police Hospital for preservation, identification and autopsy.

As part of ongoing investigations, the police have alerted hospitals and health facilities within the area “to notify the police through the emergency lines should any male persons report with gunshot wounds.”

The Tema Regional Police Command commended the officers involved in the operation and urged the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement.

“Members of the public are encouraged to continue supporting the Police with timely information to help maintain peace and security,” the statement signed by ASP Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs, Tema, noted.
