Thrilling encounters mark 2024/2025 Ghana Women’s FA Cup Round of 16

The Round of 16 in the 2024/2025 Ghana Women’s FA Cup brought exhilarating matches, intense rivalries, and standout performances as teams vied for a place in the quarter-finals over the weekend.

Jonina FC opened the round with a commanding 2-0 victory over Sissamba Ladies. Eunice Kpenteey was the hero of the match, scoring twice to propel her side into the next round. Her clinical finishing proved decisive in what was a dominant display by Jonina FC at the Alajo astroturf on Friday.

On the other side, at the Ohene Ameyaw stadium, Fosu Royal Ladies showcased their strength with a 3-0 triumph over Ash-Town Ladies. Belinda Adjei set the tone with an early goal in the 28th minute, while Patricia Adjei and Racheal Ankamaah added to the tally. The home side’s comprehensive win secured their progression comfortably.

Also, Ampem Darkoa Ladies faced a tough challenge from Dreamz Ladies FC in one of the closest contests of the round. Goals from Mary Amponsah and Yanyimaya Gnabekan sealed a 2-1 victory for Ampem Darkoa, ensuring their place in the quarter-finals despite a spirited effort from Dreamz Ladies.

At the Wa stadium, the Sung Shining Ladies continued their impressive form with a confident 2-0 win over the Tuutingli Unity Ladies. The number one top goal scorer of the 2024/2025 Women’s FA Cup, Bose Stephen and Yasdadatu Sulemana, each found the back of the net, maintaining their team’s momentum in the competition.

After a thrilling match, Northern Ladies and FC Savannah drew 1-1 in regulation time. The game went to penalties, which Northern Ladies maintained composure to win 5-4 in a thrilling shootout, guaranteeing their promotion.

In a close 1-0 victory, Faith Ladies Football Club defeated Soccer Intellectuals Ladies FC. After a fierce struggle, Faith Ladies’ perseverance proved crucial in ensuring their advancement to the next round.

Meanwhile, Hasaacas Ladies at the Onyankopon stadium delivered a statement performance with a stunning 6-0 demolition of Blacoe Soccer Queens, where goals flowed freely from Alice Sarpong, Abiba Issah, Fidous Yakubu, Linda Epo, and Anita Kwarteng as Hasaacas reaffirmed their status as strong contenders for the trophy.

Far away in Anloga, the Division One side Somanya Rootz Sistaz capped off the round with a dramatic 5-0 penalty shootout win over Anlo Ladies after the game ended goalless in regulation time. Their composure in the shootout earned them a well-deserved place in the quarter-finals.

Now that the Round of 16 is over, the competition promises even more drama and excitement as teams get ready for their next quarterfinal matches.
