“Time will tell nothing” – Prof. Asare urges CJ’s removal

A fellow at the Center for Democratic Development, Prof. Stephen Asare, has criticized the Minority in Parliament for advocating for Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo’s retention amid petitions seeking her removal.

Prof. Asare questions their inconsistency, citing past cases where petitions led to removals, such as Lauretta Lamptey’s from CHRAJ and Charlotte Osei’s from the Electoral Commission.

“Time will tell nothing. We have always insisted on punishing wrongdoers.” Prof. Asare noted on Facebook.

He also pointed out that now Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh had previously petitioned for Lamptey’s removal.

“What exactly has changed?” He wondered.

The legal scholar expressed dismay at the idea of retaining a Chief Justice who allegedly engages in backroom negotiations with the President on Supreme Court appointments.

“We should retain a CJ who is in the backroom negotiating with a president on who should be on the Supreme Court? Because, what?” he quizzed.

Meanwhile, Prof. Asare’s petition is one of three referred to the Council of State for advice by President Mahama, highlighting concerns about Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo’s conduct.
