A tipper truck driver is fighting for his life after he was shot in the eye by highway robbers during a brazen attack at Gomoa Potsin, along the Kasoa-Winneba Highway in the Central Region.
The victim, an employee of Nag Fairmount Construction, was reportedly on duty when armed men ambushed him and his vehicle. The attackers opened fire during the robbery, with one bullet striking the driver in the eye.
Confirming the incident, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Richard Ahiagbor, District Commander for Gomoa Dominase, described the attack as part of a disturbing spike in armed robberies in the area. He revealed that more than four such incidents have been reported within the past week alone.
ASP Ahiagbor made the disclosure during a stakeholder meeting on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, calling on regional authorities to act swiftly. He appealed to the Central Regional Minister, the Member of Parliament for Gomoa East, Desmond De-Graft Paitoo, and other relevant security agencies to bolster protection along the vulnerable highway corridor.
In response, the police have set up multiple checkpoints along the Kasoa-Winneba stretch in an effort to restore calm and reassure road users. ASP Ahiagbor emphasized that the police are committed to curbing the growing menace and ensuring the safety of travelers and residents in the region.
The injured driver is currently receiving emergency medical attention, with his condition described as critical.
