The Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) and GOIL PLC are exploring ways to deepen collaboration aimed at improving petroleum products supply security and strengthening stability in Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector.
The discussions took place when GOIL Group Chief Executive Officer, Edward Abambire Bawa, and members of his Executive Management Team met with TOR management.
The engagement focused on how the two state-linked petroleum institutions could work more closely to improve the reliability of fuel supplies and contribute to greater price stability at the pump.
“Our engagement focused on strengthening and deepening the strategic collaboration between TOR and GOIL as we work together to enhance petroleum products supply security, strengthen market resilience, and contribute to greater price stability at the pump for the Ghanaian consumer,” TOR Managing Director Edmond Kombat wrote in a Facebook post.
He said closer coordination between the two institutions would be important in efforts to build what he described as a more efficient and resilient downstream petroleum sector.
“The partnership between our two institutions is critical to building a more efficient, reliable and resilient downstream petroleum sector,” he stated.
The engagement comes on the heels of continued concerns over fuel supply security and fluctuations in petroleum prices, making the ability of key players in the downstream sector to coordinate their operations increasingly important.
Mr Kombat said TOR was prepared to work with industry stakeholders, including GOIL, to support Ghana’s energy security and the broader national interest.
He added that the discussions would now have to move beyond engagement to practical measures, saying the two sides were looking to translate their deliberations into “concrete actions and sustainable outcomes for Ghana and the Ghanaian consumer.”
