Editor-in-Chief of the Crusading Guide, Abdul Malik Kwaku Baako, has publicly backed former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo’s opinion that the allegations levelled against Justice Gertrude Torkornoo were insufficient grounds for her removal from office.
Baako made his position known in a comment under a Facebook post by Kofi Bentil, Vice President of IMANI Africa, where Sophia Akuffo’s remarks on the matter had been shared and discussed.
“I agree with her [Sophia Akuffo’s] judgment on the effect of the conclusions of the Pwamang Article 146 Committee,” Baako wrote, indicating his alignment with the former Chief Justice’s assessment that the case against Justice Torkornoo lacked the substance needed to justify her removal.
However, Baako also used the opportunity to revisit his previous disagreement with Sophia Akuffo during her own tenure as Chief Justice. He recalled the controversial removal of former Electoral Commission Chairperson Charlotte Osei, where Akuffo’s prima facie determination played a key role.
“Same way I disagreed with her [Sophia Akuffo’s] prima facie determination on the petition against Charlotte Osei and the subsequent Justice Benin Committee’s recommendation on Charlotte Osei, which was largely driven by her [Sophia Akuffo’s] prima facie determination!” he added.
