Tourism Ministry denies role in Karnival Kingdom Festival

Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts has distanced itself from the Karnival Kingdom Festival recently held in Accra, insisting it never approved or authorized the event.

A May 7 statement signed by Minister Abla Dzifa Gomashie revealed organizers never reached out officially no proposals, requests, or communications arrived. The ministry had zero involvement in endorsing or enabling the festival.

The clarification responds to heated social media debates and public backlash over certain activities, prompting the ministry to set the record straight amid stakeholder concerns.

Event hosts must follow protocols, securing approvals from state agencies for tourism, entertainment, or cultural programs, the statement stressed. MoTCCA recommitted to backing initiatives that honor Ghanaian values, laws, and public decency.

The inaugural Accra edition split opinions: fans raved about the lively nightlife, music, and carnival vibe, but religious leaders including Catholic bishops slammed some elements, demanding probes.

Undeterred, organizers have launched pre-sales for 2027, teasing bigger carnival parades, jouvert parties, themed nights, and attractions for local and global crowds.
