Trade Minister justifies why he sacked Cement Manufacturers from meeting

Minister for Trade and Industry, Kobina Tahir Hammond, has explained why he excluded the Chamber of Cement Manufacturers from a meeting with the Chamber of Construction Industry last week.

According to the Minister, a separate meeting had been arranged between his ministry and the cement manufacturers to discuss ways to reduce cement prices for Ghanaians.

However, the manufacturers failed to show up, citing objections to the presence of the media.

The ministry had intended for the media to cover the meeting and provide opening remarks to keep Ghanaians informed about developments in the cement industry.

Despite the Minister’s efforts to salvage the meeting, the cement manufacturers refused to participate.

Consequently, Mr. Hammond said he saw no need for the same group to attend the subsequent meeting with the Chamber of Construction Industry, which was focused on addressing issues specific to that sector.
