Tragedy on Nkawkaw-Accra Highway: 7 Dead, 10 Injured in Sprinter and Cargo Truck Collision

A tragic road traffic accident claimed the lives of seven individuals and left ten others injured on Tuesday afternoon at Nkawanda No.2, a community along the Nkawkaw-Accra Highway.

The crash, which occurred at approximately 1:45 PM, involved a Mercedes Benz Sprinter Bus with registration number AW 4619-14 and a MAN Diesel Cargo Truck registered GN 114-21.

According to officials from the Nkawkaw Fire Station, a distress call was received and a response team was dispatched promptly, arriving at the accident site by 2:00 PM. Upon arrival, responders were met with a harrowing scene: the Sprinter Bus was completely mangled, and numerous passengers had already been transported by bystanders to Holy Hospital and Kenop Hospital in Nkawkaw for emergency treatment.

Initial reports confirm that ten (10) persons sustained various degrees of injuries, including the driver and mate of the cargo truck. Tragically, seven (7) individuals were pronounced dead at the scene — all of them occupants of the Sprinter Bus.

Among the deceased were two young boys, one girl, and four women. Their identities have not yet been officially released.

The rescue team secured the scene, retrieved and preserved the remains of the victims with dignity, and worked to ensure road safety during the operation.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause of the collision.
