The Transport Operators Association of Ghana has announced a 15% increase in transport fares, effective Thursday, December 5, 2024.
According to the transport operators, the decision has become necessary due to the continuous rise in fuel prices, which has led to increasing operational costs.
“We kindly appeal to the public to bear with us during this challenging period, as this adjustment is critical to ensure the viability of our operations and continued service delivery,” the statement said.
The Association also cautioned its drivers not to succumb to intimidation or undue pressure from individuals or groups seeking to prevent the implementation of the fare increment.
The statement noted that in the past, certain leadership members from their umbrella organizations had allowed government officials to influence the withdrawal of fare adjustments.
However, the Association says it is resolute in its decision this time around.
“We urge all Ghanaians to support this adjustment and appreciate the need for a sustainable transport system amidst the prevailing economic conditions,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, the Association has also urged Ghanaians to participate peacefully in the upcoming general elections on December 7, 2024.
“Let us work together to uphold peace and unity in our beloved nation,” the statement concluded.
