TUC condemns revocation of appointments, urges President Mahama to intervene

Trades Union Congress Ghana (TUC) has condemned the revocation of appointments and recruitments made after December 7, 2024, by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah.

In a press statement made available to Metro TV, TUC Secretary-General Joshua Ansah described the directive as “very problematic” and open to abuse .

The union argues that the move is not only unfair to those affected but also undermines good governance practices and principles.

TUC noted in the statement that the revocation has led to mass terminations, including appointments made before December 7, 2024.

He noted that some individuals who had been on contract for over five years and had their appointments regularized in December 2024 have lost their jobs.

The TUC Secretary General Joshua Ansah therefore called on President John Dramani Mahama to intervene and stop the ongoing terminations.

He warned that the mass termination of employment, particularly for teachers, nurses, and other young Ghanaians, can be devastating and undermine the country’s democratic credentials.

The union also criticized the partisan nature of the directive, pointing out that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had condemned similar actions by the then incoming administration in 2017.

He urged President Mahama to grant amnesty to all appointments made by the previous administration, similar to the amnesty granted to individuals recruited by the previous administration who are currently undergoing training with security agencies.
