Residents of Twifo Attorkrom in the Twifo Atti Morkwa District are pleading with the government to fix their road, which they say has become a death trap. They fear more lives will be lost if nothing is done soon.
The road, which connects the community to nearby health facilities, is in such poor condition that pregnant women often have to be carried to the hospital on foot. Some residents say women have died during labour because ambulances cannot reach them.
“We are suffering. When it rains, the road becomes impassable. Even schoolchildren cannot use it,” one resident said.
The community’s frustration is directed at both the government and their elected officials. They accuse their Member of Parliament, T. D. Vondee, and the District Chief Executive, Isaac Yawson, of neglecting them despite repeated promises.
“They came here before the elections and promised to fix the road. We voted for change but nothing has changed,” another resident said.
The chief of Twifo Attorkrom, Thomas Klomegah Odikro, said he is saddened by the neglect. According to him, he has made several appeals to the authorities but has received no meaningful response.
“We are part of Ghana. We deserve good roads like every other citizen,” the chief said. “We have done our part by voting, but it feels like we have been forgotten.”
Residents say they are running out of patience and are calling for immediate construction of the road. They warn that they will no longer stay silent if their concerns continue to be ignored.
