Two dead, dozen injured in fatal accident on Apam-Winneba Highway

A tragic accident on the Apam-Winneba highway in the Central Region has claimed the lives of two people, with a dozen others injured.

The accident occurred at 05:00 am on Thursday when a sprinter bus, registration number GT 5873-09, veered off the road after bursting a rear tyre.

The driver lost control and crashed into a tree on the roadside.

The bus was carrying passengers from Keneshie to Takoradi when the incident occurred.

The deceased, a male and a female, are believed to be in their mid-to-late 30s.

Twelve passengers sustained various degrees of injury and were taken to Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital for treatment. Six others were sent to Winneba Trauma Hospital, while 17 were taken to St Luke’s Hospital in Apam, including the bus mate.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service and the National Ambulance Service rescued the 23 victims.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
