Two Ghanaian referees have been selected to officiate at the TotalEnergies U20 Africa Cup of Nations WAFU B Qualifiers, which kick start on October 17, 2024, in Lome, Togo.
FIFA Referee Julian Nii Akwa Nunoo (Centre) and Roland Nii Addy (Assistant Referee) are part of a combined 16 officials (8 Referees) and (8 Assistants) selected for the sub-regional championship.
The U20 Africa Cup of Nations WAFU B Qualifiers will feature host Togo, Ghana, Benin and Niger in Group A, while Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast will square off in Group B.
Ghana under the tutelage of Desmond Offei will begin their campaign against Benin on the opening day at the Stade de Kegue on Thursday, October 17, 2024.
Their second group match will be held three days later at the Stade Municipal Stadium, where they will take on Niger on Sunday, October 20.
The final group game in the qualifying series will be against hosts Togo on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.
In Group B, Nigeria will take on Burkina Faso in the opening match of the group, followed by Burkina Faso facing Côte d’Ivoire in the second group game. The final match will see Burkina Faso go up against Côte d’Ivoire.
The first two teams in each group will qualify for the semifinals, with the semifinal winners securing a place in the final and also qualifying for the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
Ghana after winning the All African Games in Accra earlier this year is aiming to secure one of the spots in the AFCON.
The WAFU Zone B U-20 Cup of Nations is set to take place from October 17 to 31, 2024.
