Two young women have been arrested after prison officers at Ankaful Maximum Security Prison uncovered pepper sauce allegedly laced with suspected cannabis intended for inmates.
Beauty Buerkie Buertey, 21, and Maura Amissah, 23, are currently in police custody in Elmina after being picked up for allegedly attempting to smuggle the substance, locally known as “wee,” into the facility.
According to reports, the two arrived at the prison with a container of shito meant for inmates. During routine checks, officers became suspicious and inspected the contents. The search reportedly revealed that the pepper sauce had been mixed with a substance believed to be Indian hemp.
The discovery led to their immediate arrest, and they were handed over to police for further investigation.
Authorities say the suspects are assisting with inquiries as efforts continue to determine how the drug was prepared and intended to be delivered inside the prison.
