The Upper East Regional Coordinating Council has launched the Upper East Region Development Planning and Business Forum and Exhibition, an initiative aimed at showcasing the region’s investment potential and attracting businesses and investors from across Ghana and beyond.
The event, held in Bolgatanga, brought together government officials, Members of Parliament, business leaders and development partners to explore opportunities for economic growth and investment in the region.
Among the dignitaries present were Garu MP, Thomas Winsum Anabah; Deputy Minister for Education and Builsa South MP, Clement Apaak; Tempane MP, Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba; Talensi MP, Mahama Dung Daniel; Isaac Adongo, MP for Bolgatanga Central and Nabdam MP, Mark Kurt Nawaane as well as Donatus Akamugri Atanga, the Upper East Regional minister.
Presidential Adviser on the 24-Hour Economy, Goosie Tanoh, who was the special guest of honour, underscored the importance of the forum in driving economic transformation. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the 24-hour economy policy and urged stakeholders across the Upper East Region to embrace the initiative to accelerate development.
The Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Akamugri Atanga, also reiterated the region’s readiness to partner with investors and businesses to unlock its vast economic potential.
NPP National Chairman aspirant, Paul Afoko, said he has a deep personal connection to the Upper East Region, noting that his grandmother hailed from Bolgatanga, his mother from Navrongo, he is from Sandema, and he attended school in Bawku. He called on residents to remain united and work together for the region’s development.
Speaking at the forum, Dr. Thomas Winsum Anabah described the initiative as timely, saying it would attract investors and create business opportunities for the people of the region. He pledged his support for efforts that would enable his constituents to benefit from the investment drive.
Deputy Minister for Education, Clement Apaak, commended the organisers for the initiative and disclosed that government is at an advanced stage of implementing free education for persons with disabilities from the basic to the tertiary level.
Talensi MP, Mahama Dung Daniel, highlighted the constituency’s vast mineral resources, stating that Talensi is home to one of Ghana’s largest mining areas. He expressed optimism that the forum would attract more investment and expand business activities in the district.
The forum is expected to serve as a platform for promoting investment, strengthening public-private partnerships, and positioning the Upper East Region as a key destination for business and economic development.
