U/ER: Military launches operation in Basyonde after attack on immigration officers

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have launched a military operation in Basyonde, Upper East Region, following an attack on officers of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) at Nagani, near the Ghana–Togo border.

The assault, which occurred on 2nd November, 2025, left one officer dead and another injured. The victims have been identified as Cosmos Dakura and Philip Lartey.

According to reports, the two officers were ambushed by unidentified gunmen after closing from duty and on their way home.

The assailants allegedly opened fire on them, which led to the death of one and injury of the other before fleeing with a rifle and a sidearm.

In response, the Ghana Armed Forces have intensified security operations in Basyonde and surrounding communities in an effort to apprehend the suspects.

However, some local residents have accused the military of using excessive force during the operation, alleging incidents of brutality.

Security authorities have yet to issue an official statement addressing the alleged military misconduct, but investigations into the attack on the immigration officers are ongoing.
