An immigration officer has been shot dead after armed men opened fire on personnel at the Pulimakom Immigration checkpoint in the Pusiga District of the Upper East Region.
The attackers, whose identities are not yet known, reportedly stormed the checkpoint and began shooting at the officers on duty.
At least one officer died in the assault, while others sustained injuries and were taken to nearby health facilities for treatment.
Sources suggest the attack may have been carried out in retaliation for the seizure of a consignment of opioids, known locally as “red,” by immigration officers earlier in the week.
Security has been tightened in the area as investigations continue.
