University dons declare support for Ken Agyapong’s NPP flagbearership bid

A group of university professors and professionals across the country have declared their support for Kennedy Ohene Agyapong in his bid to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The group, numbering about 60, comprises academics and professionals from the University of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), University of Cape Coast (UCC), Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Ghana Technology Communication University, Ghana Maritime University, and Pentecost University.

They include professors, engineers, surveyors, architects, registrars, and other senior administrative personnel from public universities and professional institutions.

At a meeting held on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at the campaign office of Kennedy Agyapong in Accra, the group reiterated its commitment to support his campaign and contribute to advancing his vision for national development.

Professor Alhassan Sulemana Anamzoya of the University of Ghana, who convened the meeting, said the group’s decision to support Kennedy Agyapong stemmed from his practical record in job creation and his commitment to tackling the country’s unemployment challenge.

“Unemployment is a major canker in Ghana. Out of all the aspirants currently campaigning to lead the NPP, only Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong has demonstrated that he is a job creator and the solution to Ghana’s unemployment problem. He has proven beyond reasonable doubt that he can create jobs for both the highly educated and the less educated,” Prof. Anamzoya stated.

Kenendy Agyapong, on his part, expressed gratitude to the professors and professionals for their continuous support, describing their gesture as an encouragement to pursue his agenda of job creation and economic transformation.

He noted that the initiative that began with a small group of lecturers from the University of Ghana had now evolved into a nationwide movement across major tertiary institutions.

The former Member of Parliament for Assin Central reaffirmed that his primary objective for seeking the presidency was to address unemployment and promote agricultural productivity.

“My mission is simple—jobs! Jobs!! And jobs!!! By creating jobs for the Ghanaian youth, we will grow and process what we eat, ensure food sufficiency, and maintain financial discipline,” he said.

He further stated that Ghana’s northern regions and parts of the Volta Region could serve as the country’s agricultural backbone to produce enough food for domestic consumption and export, thereby reducing reliance on imports and the dollar.

Some of the professors at the meeting expressed confidence in Kennedy Agyapong’s leadership capacity, citing his record of creating over 7,000 jobs through private enterprise and pragmatic initiatives.

They also called for honesty and accountability among political leaders, criticizing the tendency of some aspirants to make unrealistic promises of employment without proven capacity.

The group proposed a follow-up meeting to allow more members from various universities to participate in discussions on supporting Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign.

Other dignitaries present included Ambassador Ansu Kyeremeh, former Minister for Lands and Natural Resources and former Ambassador to India; Charles Bissiu, Campaign Administrator; and Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah.

Professor Anamzoya, on behalf of the group, thanked Kennedy Agyapong for meeting them despite the short notice and pledged their continued commitment to supporting his presidential ambition.
