Unrealistic to Complete All Agenda 111 Projects- Health Minister

Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh

Ghana’s Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has indicated that the government’s ambitious Agenda 111 initiative may not be fully realized due to significant financial and logistical constraints.

During an interview on the Citi FM, Akandoh highlighted the challenges the administration faces in completing the healthcare infrastructure project launched by the previous government.

The Agenda 111 programme, launched by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration, aimed to build 111 new hospitals across the country to bridge the existing healthcare infrastructure gap. While the project was initially hailed as a bold move to address the country’s health challenges, Akandoh suggested that completing all of these facilities in the near future may be unrealistic. He explained that although some of the hospitals are nearing completion, many others are still in the early stages, requiring both substantial time and resources to bring them to fruition.

Minister Akandoh pointed out that the scale of the Agenda 111 initiative, coupled with the varied stages of development when the current government took over, presents a unique set of challenges. “While we remain committed to improving healthcare in Ghana, we must adopt a more realistic approach,” Akandoh stated, acknowledging that the financial burden and practicalities involved in pushing all the projects forward simultaneously are overwhelming.

Some hospitals within the Agenda 111 framework are reportedly in advanced stages, while others are still in their infancy. The Minister emphasized that each of these projects would require significant investment, and delays may be inevitable without adequate resources. The government’s ability to meet the ambitious timelines set by the former administration depends on securing consistent funding and overcoming logistical barriers.
