The Communication Director of the newly launched United Party (UP+), Solomon Owusu, has described the Nation Builders Corps (NABCo) as a failed and wasteful government initiative.
Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana, Mr. Owusu alleged that the programme, which was introduced to tackle youth unemployment, ended up paying thousands of young people for doing nothing.
“NABCo was established, and the youth that were engaged were doing nothing, yet they were being paid every month,” he claimed.
“Those that they paid every month were not more than 7,000, and in total, NABCo members were not more than 40,000. Obviously, it’s a bogus policy.”
Mr. Owusu said the government still owes some of the beneficiaries and argued that the discontinuation of the programme shows it was never sustainable.
“If it was a good policy, it would have survived. Now they have had to discontinue it,” he added.
