UPSA dismisses lady caught whipping colleague in viral video

Management of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has dismissed a student who was captured in a viral video whipping another student for bizarre reasons.

The decision is part of efforts to uphold discipline in the school.

In a video which went viral in March, one female student identified as Mabel Teye-Nomo was seen in the hallway of the school’s hostel verbally abusing the much younger victim while assaulting her with a cane at the UPSA Hostel.

Grapevine has it that the victim got the third degree for spreading rumours about the bully.

Subsequently, another video surfaced online where Ms. Mabel Teye-Nomo was whipping the palm of another student in a hostel room.

The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) tasked its Disciplinary Committee to probe the incident on April 6.

Submitting its report, the committee recommended Mabel Teye-Nomo ’s dismissal from the CIMG Access Course as her actions contravene the school’s regulations.

This prompted UPSA’s Registrar, Dr. Koryoe Anim-Wright, the Vice Chancellor to order her to also hand over her keys to the hostel room and the University’s student ID card.

In a statement dated April 19, 2023, Dr. Anim-Wright, said Ms.Teye-Nomo is being sacked under Schedule G Section 8.4 of the University’s Fundamental Regulations.
