Urbanization threatening food security in Afigya Kwabre South District

The Afigya Kwabre South District which is one of the highest food baskets of the Ashanti region is being challenged by urbanization and sand-winning activities.

Speaking in an interview with Metro News at the 38th National Farmers day, District Director of Agriculture, Jonathan Darkwah Baffoe, explaining the potential of Agriculture in the district urged authorities to help preserved lands for Agriculture purposes to enhance food security in the country.

For his part, the District Chief executive officer of Afigya Kwabre South, Christian Adu Poku urged the youth to venture into Agriculture to curb unemployment in the country and boost food production.

He explained several interventions by the Assembly to enhance food security. He also appealed to chiefs and traditional authorities to help maintain the status of the district as a food basket of the region, by considering reserving lands for agric purposes.

Nine individuals and organizations who have excelled over the year in smart agric and food security received awards at the ceremony.
