The U.S. Embassy in Accra has announced the temporary suspension of most routine consular services from July 20 to July 31, 2026, to allow for scheduled maintenance works at its facility.
In a notice issued on Tuesday, July 14, the Embassy said normal consular operations will resume on Monday, August 3.
“Routine consular services at U.S. Embassy Accra will be paused from July 20 to July 31, 2026, for scheduled facility maintenance and will resume August 3, 2026,” the statement said.
The Embassy also advised that some walk-in services would not be available during the maintenance period.
According to the notice, “walk-in services for notaries and Consular Reports of Death Abroad (CRODA) will not be available during the maintenance period.”
However, the Embassy said applicants whose passport or Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA) documents are ready for collection can still pick them up on designated days.
It explained that applicants who have received email notifications confirming their documents are ready “can still report to the Embassy on Thursdays between 1:30 pm and 3:00 pm.”
The Embassy further assured U.S. citizens that adult passport renewals submitted through its drop box system would continue to be processed despite the temporary suspension of routine services.
“Adult passport renewals submitted via Embassy drop box will continue to be processed,” the statement added.
The Embassy encouraged applicants seeking passport renewal through the drop box service to follow the instructions available on its official website.
