Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa says the United States government has given assurances that it will not obstruct Ghana’s efforts regarding the removal of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and former Public Procurement Authority boss Sedina Tamakloe Attionu.
Mr. Ablakwa said the assurance was given during a high-level Ghana–US bilateral meeting he hosted at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which reviewed cooperation between the two countries and set priorities for 2026.
“The United States Government has assured, that without prejudice to judicial processes, it will not stand in the way of Ghana as regards the removal of Ken Ofori-Atta and Sedina Tamakloe Attionu,” Mr Ablakwa disclosed in a social media post.
The meeting, led on the US side by Acting Ambassador Rolf Olson, also assessed progress made in bilateral relations over the past year.
Mr Ablakwa noted that “yesterday, we conducted a comprehensive assessment of our Ghana-US bilateral relations and agreed on priority areas for cooperation in 2026,” adding that the engagement reviewed “the significant progress we made in 2025.”
The assurance on Ofori-Atta and Sedinam was discussed alongside broader security and law enforcement cooperation between the two countries.
Okudzeto Ablakwa said both sides “applauded our improved security and law enforcement cooperation leading to the extradition of 9 suspects from Ghana to the USA in 2025,” as well as “ongoing commendable efforts to also send over 2 Ghanaians of high interest from the US to Ghana.”
Beyond the legal and security matters, the Foreign Minister said the engagement reaffirmed strong economic ties, including confirmation of “recent payments to US companies and the enhanced business climate which is ideal for stronger Ghana-US trade.”
