The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), University of Education, Winneba (UEW) Chapter, is demanding a thorough investigation and swift justice following the gruesome murder of Professor Mawuadem Koku Amedeker, whose body was found buried at his residence in Gyaahadze, Winneba.
The incident has left the entire University of Education, Winneba (UEW) community in grief and disbelief.
In a heartfelt statement, UTAG-UEW expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss, extending their condolences to Prof. Amedeker’s family, students, and colleagues.
“This heartbreaking incident has shaken not only the UEW academic community but the entire nation,” the statement read.
While the police have arrested one suspect so far, UTAG-UEW is urging law enforcement to intensify efforts to apprehend all those connected to what they described as a “heinous act.”
The association praised the Ghana Police Service for initiating investigations but stressed the need for speed and thoroughness.
“As a union, we remain committed to supporting the investigation in any capacity necessary. This is not just about accountability but affirming the safety and sanctity of our academic institutions,” UTAG-UEW added.
The statement, signed by UTAG-UEW President Stephen Osei Akyiaw and Secretary Dr. Bernard Tutu-Boahene, described Prof. Amedeker’s death as a stark reminder of the urgent need for enhanced security for both academic staff and the Effutu community at large.
UTAG-UEW is calling on the government, security agencies, and university authorities to collaborate and ensure the safety and well-being of all staff and students across campuses.
