V/R Tidal Waves: Residents appeal to Prez Mahama for permanent solution

Residents of Salakope, Amutinu, Adina, and Agavedzi leaving in coastal communities in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region are appealing to President John Dramani Mahama to fulfill his promise of dredging and extending the sea defense project to protect their livelihoods and properties.

They warn that if the destruction caused by tidal waves is not addressed immediately, entire communities and the main road from Denu to Keta may be completely submerged.

The persistent tidal waves have completely wiped out the community of Salakope and other surrounding communities in the Ketu South Municipality.

The main road connecting Denu to Keta through these communities has been submerged, leaving drivers and passengers stranded with their goods. Many prayed for the sea to recede temporarily to allow vehicles to pass.

Market women are forced to carry goods bought from the Denu Market on their heads and walk long distances to find alternative transport. Students have also been affected, with many unable to attend school, and local businesses have come to a standstill.

Drivers who attempted to pass through got their vehicles stuck in the middle of the road; some even broke down. The youth used their strength to push the stuck vehicles out of the way to clear the path.

Some of the drivers and market women shared their frustrations with Metro TV News, urging former President Mahama to fulfill his promise and help salvage the situation.

In response to the worsening conditions, some aggrieved youth in the community have blocked the remaining motorable sections of the road in protest against what they describe as government inaction and indifference to their daily suffering.

The youth insist they want tangible action from the government not just relief items or unfulfilled promises.
