VCTF strengthens investment talent pipeline with new VCAP cohort, alumni network launch

Ghana’s efforts to deepen its venture capital ecosystem received a boost with the graduation of a new batch of analysts, the launch of an alumni network, and the onboarding of a fresh cohort under the Venture Capital Analysts Programme (VCAP).

The VCAP initiative which begin in 2016, forms part of broader efforts to build a pipeline of investment talent equipped with the discipline, technical skills, and perspective required to support businesses and drive economic growth. So far 35 individuals have benefited from the Programme.

Chief Executive Officer of VCTF, Michael Abbey, stressed that beyond capital, the growth of Ghana’s private equity and venture capital space hinges on skilled professionals capable of deploying funds effectively.

He noted that participants from previous cohorts are already contributing across the investment landscape, highlighting the programme’s practical impact.

Mr. Abbey further described the launch of the alumni network as a critical step in strengthening the ecosystem, explaining that it will foster collaboration, continuous learning, and long-term industry contribution beyond individual training cohorts.

“As we welcome a new cohort, we are reinforcing our commitment to sustaining a strong talent pipeline for the ecosystem,” he added.

President of the Ghana Securities Industry Association, Kisseih Antonio, underscored the importance of the programme in addressing structural gaps within Ghana’s investment space.

He said initiatives like VCAP equip participants with the tools to better understand risk, discipline, and responsibility in capital allocation, skills he believes are often lacking in traditional finance training.

Mr. Antonio further pointed to the growing role of domestic capital, including pension funds and institutional investors, in shaping Ghana’s future investment landscape.

However, he cautioned that the success of this capital will depend largely on the availability of professionals who can deploy it prudently and responsibly.
