Verify CSE allegations, NAPO may have evidence to support claims – Nana Akomea tells Ablakwa

Managing Director of the State Transport Corporation, Nana Akomea, has urged Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the former Deputy Education Minister in charge of Tertiary Education, to seek verification over public disputes regarding the Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) curriculum allegations.

Making an appearance on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Friday morning, Nana Akomea, who is also a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) stressed the importance of protecting reputations but urged Ablakwa to verify Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s allegations.

“These are reputational issues… If an allegation has been made against you and you believe it’s false, verify.”

Vice presidential candidate of the governing NPP, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO, alleged that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) under Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa’s leadership developed a Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) curriculum for school children when he took office as Deputy Education Minister.

However, Okudzeto Ablakwa has refuted the claims, saying they are “so false, blatant concoction, total fabrication, no truth”

On the other hand, Nana Akomea believes Ablakwa’s successor, NAPO, may have evidence, warranting a verification process.

He also cautioned against speculation, referencing President Mahama’s 2016 election loss.

“We all know President Mahama didn’t lose the presidency because of some curse, we know he lost because Ghanaians didn’t approve his performance, that’s all,” he noted.

Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) is an educational approach focused on promoting holistic understanding of human sexuality. This curriculum-based process encompasses cognitive, emotional, physical, and social aspects, aiming to equip individuals with knowledge and skills for informed decision-making.

In 2019, the Ghanaian government attempted to introduce CSE into the national education system, sparking widespread public outcry. The proposed curriculum faced intense backlash, leading to its eventual withdrawal.
