Violence erupts at Walewale NPP primary, ex-chairman arrested

A former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman for Yagaba-Kubori, Akamari Bawa, has been arrested by police for allegedly disrupting the party’s parliamentary primary in Walewale.

According to our Northern Regional Correspondent, Alhassan D. Baba, the incident occurred during the vote sorting process, after voting had ended.

Additionally,  gunshots were heard at the voting grounds.

This development has caused tension among supporters of the various aspirants.

Dr. Mahama Tia Kabiru, one of the aspirants, expressed disappointment over the disruption, stating that the perpetrator was motivated by fear of defeat.

“The individual responsible is known to us…the former constituency chairman for Yagaba Kubori, Akamari Bawa,” Dr. Kabiru told the media.

Mohammed Muniru Janda, NPP Walewale Constituency Chairman, confirmed that Dr. Kabiru appeared to be leading based on the ballots being sorted at the time of the disruption.
