Volta NPP condemns NDC’s threats against UHAS honorary doctorate for Akufo-Addo

The Volta Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Makafui Kofi Woanya, has condemned the interference and threats by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and their supporters against the administration and council of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS).

The NDC and their supporters are opposed to the decision by UHAS to confer an honorary Doctor of Science degree on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his contributions to education and promotion of lifelong opportunities for all.

Mr. Woanya described the NDC’s actions as “backward, ill-advised, and reprehensible” and called on well-meaning Ghanaians to condemn them.

He questioned why political parties should have a say in who qualifies for honorary awards by public universities.

The NPP Regional Chairman also called on the security services to deal swiftly with all miscreants and deviant behaviors.

The UHAS administration and governing council announced their intention to confer the honorary degree on President Akufo-Addo in line with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal (SDG4).

The Concerned Volta Youths, a group opposed to the decision, has called on the Vice-Chancellor and University Council to withdraw the proposed conferment and for the President to decline the honor.
