Electricity supply in the Volta Region is set for a major upgrade following the handover of sites for a new power substation in Ho and the rehabilitation of a key transmission line.
The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, GRIDCo and the Electricity Company of Ghana have handed over the sites for the construction of a new 161/35kV substation at Ho and the upgrade of the 45km Asiekpe to Ho transmission line.
The project, valued at GHS598 million, is expected to improve voltage levels and make electricity supply more reliable in Ho and surrounding communities.
It will also create additional capacity to meet rising demand for electricity along the Eastern Corridor, where growing economic activity and population are putting increased pressure on the existing power network.
Energy Minister Dr John Jinapor is leading the ministry overseeing the project, which is expected to be completed within six to 12 months.
The new substation and upgraded transmission line are expected to strengthen the network and reduce some of the challenges associated with supplying power to the region.
For residents and businesses, the project is expected to provide a stronger electricity network capable of supporting future growth and increasing demand.
