A member of the ruling New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) communications team, Mr. Ernest Adade, has strongly criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for their persistent allegations regarding the Voters Register.
The NDC has repeatedly requested that the Electoral Commission should (EC) provide them with the register ahead of the elections, claiming it contains numerous ghost names.
They have even called for an independent audit of the register. On Monday, September 9, NDC Chairman John Asiedu Nketia announced plans to stage a demonstration against the EC on September 17.
Mr. Adade maintained that the action taken by Asiedu Nketia was meant to prepare the minds of National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters to reject the perpetual defeat the main party was going to suffer in the 2024 general election.
“NDC is “beating the drums of war” and “preparing the minds of their supporters to reject the outcome of the 2024 general elections, foreseeing their inevitable loss,” Mr Ernest Adade told Kwaku Owusu Adjei on Adwenepa on Accra-based Original TV.
Mr. Ernest Adade dismissed the NDC’s claims, stating that it is unrealistic to expect the register to be completely free of deceased individuals’ names, given that deaths occur daily.
“As I speak, I am not aware the Electoral Commission has carried out any investigation into what compromised their Information Technology system, stakeholders, the political parties, have not been briefed on what caused corruption of system, in interest of transparency, Ghanaians must understand what happened before we go into another election,” he added.
He argued that the EC cannot be expected to conduct village-by-village searches to identify and remove all deceased persons from the register.
He accused the NDC of attempting to discredit the EC and create unnecessary fear among Ghanaians ahead of the December polls.
He expressed confidence in the legitimacy of the register and the EC’s efforts, urging the NDC to cease their “noise-making” and allow the electoral process to unfold peacefully.
