WAEC blocks 8,486 WASSCE candidates’ results online for various offences

The West African Examination Council has made the results of some 8,486 candidates inaccessible online for failing to return learning support materials supplied to them and/or destroying school property.

The decision was taken following a request from the Ghana Education Service (GES).

The affected candidates are advised to visit their schools for their results.

The Council announced the release of provisional results for the 2020 West African Senior School Certification Examination on Thursday.

A statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs, Agnes Teye-Cudjoe said over 40,000 candidates failed the core subjects this year and the subject result for 3,845 candidates was canceled after they were caught in examination malpractice.

518 candidates also had their entire results cancelled for sending mobile phones into the examination hall.

“The entire results of 117 candidates have been withheld pending the conclusion of investigations into alleged cases of impersonation detected during the examination. The scripts of candidates from 179 schools in certain subjects are being scrutinised for reported cases of collusion.” WAEC added.

422,883 candidates made up of 203,753 males and 219,130 females from 977 schools registered for the examination.

However, 2,818 (0.67 %) of the candidates who registered were absent from the examination.
