Ghana’s Black Starlets will battle Ivory Coast in the grand finale of the WAFU B U-17 Boys Championship after edging out arch-rivals Nigeria in a thrilling semi-final clash on Tuesday night.
The Starlets sealed their spot in Sunday’s final with a convincing 2-0 victory, thanks to first-half strikes from John Awule and Robhino Gavi Yao.
Ghana started brightly, piling pressure on the Nigerians. Narbi Joseph went close before Gavi forced a brilliant save from the opposing goalkeeper.
Their dominance paid off in the 21st minute when Awule coolly finished off a sweeping move. Ten minutes later, Yao doubled the advantage with a stunning curling effort after a clever assist from Kagawa Mensah.
Despite Nigeria’s late surge, Ghana’s defense held firm, with goalkeeper Solomon Kwame Kesse producing key saves to preserve the clean sheet and secure a memorable win.
With momentum on their side, Prosper Ogum’s boys now turn their focus to the much-anticipated final against Ivory Coast on Sunday, October 5. Victory would not only crown their resurgence in the tournament but also cement their place as regional champions.
The stage is set for a fiery West African derby — and the Black Starlets are just one win away from glory.
