A suspected armed robber and murder suspect has died after being shot during a police operation at Cherimbo in the Prang District.
Police say the man, identified as Amadu Mammaa, was wanted over a series of robbery attacks and a murder case.
He was tracked down on Monday 13 April 2026 during what officers described as an intelligence-led operation by the Bono East Regional Police Intelligence Directorate, with support from the national Police Intelligence Directorate.
According to police, the suspect was shot during an exchange of gunfire with officers. He was taken to Holy Family Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.
A search of the suspect led to the recovery of a foreign-made pistol loaded with four rounds of 7.65mm ammunition, a cutlass and three talismans.
Investigators say the suspect had been linked to the killing of Hawa Yakubu on 9 March 2026 at Jerusalem near Mpaha in the Savannah Region. He was also wanted in connection with a robbery attack on two people at Bompa near Ejura in the Ashanti Region on 23 February 2026.
The body has been placed at the Holy Family Hospital morgue, while police say further investigations are ongoing.
