A 21-year-old washing bay attendant has been arrested for allegedly stealing more than GH¢46,000 from his friend’s account and spending the money on betting.
Police say Dominic Fordjour is accused of withdrawing GH¢46,306.90 belonging to Bernard Kyei without his consent over a period of time.
According to investigators, Fordjour accompanied Kyei when he opened a bank account. Kyei later decided to register a mobile money account and was allegedly advised by Fordjour to use “1957” as his password.
The alleged theft came to light when Kyei attempted to withdraw money from the account and discovered that the balance had been depleted.
Suspecting foul play, he reported the matter to the police, who launched an investigation.
Police say Fordjour admitted during questioning that he had been withdrawing money from the account whenever he needed funds. Investigators allege that the total amount withdrawn was GH¢46,306.90.
He is also alleged to have told police that the money was used entirely for betting activities.
Fordjour remains in police custody as investigations continue.
