WASSCE 2024: Over 112,000 students fail core subjects with F9 grade

A total of 112,139 students, representing 24.4% of the total candidates who sat for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in Ghana, obtained an F9 grade in at least one of the four core subjects.

According to the West African Examinations Council {WAEC), 26,872 students (5.88%) failed English Language with an F9 grade, while 27,816 students (6.10%) obtained the same grade in Mathematics (Core).

In Integrated Science, 32,489 students (7.12%) failed with an F9 grade, and in Social Studies, 43,570 students (9.55%) obtained the same grade.

The results show that a significant number of students struggled with the core subjects, raising concerns about the quality of education in the country.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has cautioned candidates to be wary of fraudsters who promise to upgrade results for a fee.

A total of 460,611 candidates sat for the examination, representing a 2.66% increase from the 2023 entry figure.
