We did not abandon patient in the bush at Gomoa Ojobi – Trauma Hospital

The Medical Director of Trauma and Specialist Hospital, Winneba, Dr. Prah George Kwame, has categorically denied allegations that the hospital abandoned a hit-and-run accident victim in Gomoa Ojobi.

In a detailed report available to Metro TV, Dr. Prah explained that the hospital admitted the unidentified patient on May 29, 2024, and provided comprehensive care, including plastering of fractured tibia bones.

Contrary to claims of abandonment, Dr. Prah emphasized that the hospital ensured the patient’s safe return to Gomoa Ojobi on June 3, 2024, after six days of treatment, in collaboration with social welfare officers.

The hospital also provided clothing and a wheelchair for transportation, demonstrating its commitment to quality care and compassion.

Dr. Prah asserted that this is not the first time the hospital has played a “Good Samaritan” role, citing records of similar instances where the hospital has cared for vulnerable patients and safely returned them to their communities.

He appreciated public concerns but clarified that the hospital has no history of misconduct and remains dedicated to upholding its high standards of service and empathy.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Health Service has set up a committee to investigate the alleged abandonment of a patient in a bush at Gomoa Ojobi by the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba.

According to a statement signed by the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, the committee will conduct an independent enquiry into the matter to ensure appropriate action is taken.

“The Service wishes to assure your good office that appropriate action will be taken at the end of the enquiry to ensure that any persons connected with the unfortunate incident are brought to book,” the statement said.

The committee, which includes representatives from the Ghana Health Service, the Ministry of Health, and the Social Welfare Department, has been tasked with establishing the identity of the patient, the events leading to their admission and discharge, and identifying gaps in the hospital’s processes.
