One of the most forward-looking aspects of President John Mahama’s speech at the Third African Prosperity Dialogue in Accra, was his focus on the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the potential of digital technology to accelerate Africa’s development.
He discussed how embracing technology can help Africa leapfrog traditional models of development, especially in sectors like financial inclusion, governance, and public service delivery.
“Digital transformation can drive financial inclusion,” Mahama noted, highlighting how technologies like fintech and e-commerce can empower businesses and individuals across the continent.
He emphasized that increasing internet access and digital infrastructure will be key to bridging the digital divide and fostering economic growth.
“We must expand Internet access and digital infrastructure to bridge the digital divide,” he said.
President Mahama also encouraged African governments and businesses to support homegrown innovations, explaining that local technological solutions can serve as the foundation for the continent’s future development.
“Technology indeed has the power to make Africa more competitive if we embrace it strategically,” he said.
In his view, Africa’s future competitiveness will depend on its ability to integrate digital solutions across every sector, from commerce to governance.
